Special Services

As Christians, we believe that God is part of every aspect of our lives. The church tries to be there for people at all events of life, celebrations as well as sadness.

Weddings

Getting married is often one of the happiest moments in someone's life.

To find someone you love, and loves you in return, and is willing to make a life-long commitment brings so much joy and happiness.

If you would like to get married in our church, please get in touch with our minister.

If neither the bride or groom is a member of the church, the minister will discuss whether a religious ceremony is what you are looking for, and if not will help you decide the best way to celebrate your love for each other on your special day.

Baptisms

In Elderslie and Linwood Parish Church we baptise both infants and adults.

When a child is baptised we declare God's love for the child and express hope that the child will one day fulfil their baptism by becoming a member of the church.

When bringing a child for baptism, the parents make promises on behalf of their child that they will nurture and encourage the child's faith and bring them up in the life of the church. The members of the congregation also make a promise to support the family.

When an adult wishes to be baptised the main difference is the adult will make the baptismal promises themself.

If you have been baptised as a child, then you do not need to be 're-baptised' as an adult. If you wish to re-commit your Christian faith then there are other ways to mark this. Please contact the minister if this is something you wish to do.

Funerals

The death of a loved one is a very upsetting and difficult time. The church will always be there to support those who are grieving.

There is such a lot to be done in a short space of time. The first thing to do is register the death, then contact a Funeral Director. The Funeral Director will become your main contact for organising a funeral service.

You may decide you wish the funeral service to be taken by a minister. The minister will conduct a funeral of any person in the parish of Elderslie and Linwood, and as such there is no 'fee' paid to a parish minister who takes a funeral service.

You may wish to contact the minister yourself, or you can ask the Funeral Director to do this on your behalf. Either way the minister will arrange to meet you, and any family, to discuss the funeral arrangements and prepare the funeral service.

After the service the minister will be available to offer any support you may need.
